Church Council News
The Church Council tackled some major issues on Monday 13th November and did so thoughtfully and carefully, including receiving this announcement from David Lewis, Paul Smith and Maggie Prisk:
Following Andy Jowitt’s retirement consideration has been given to the appointment of a new Team Vicar for the Stantonbury Ecumenical Partnership. Noting that an ecumenical review of the SEP was overdue, and that the partnership faced a number of issues, including an ongoing financial shortfall, the Bishop and the Archdeacon put forward a proposal that an interim minister be appointed, for a period of up to two years. The minister would be a full member of the Ministers’ Team of the SEP, and their main responsibility would be the ministry at Bradwell Church (David Lewis, the Baptist minister in the SEP, would then take responsibility for ministry at Cross and Stable). The interim minister would also lead the review process, together with ecumenical partners. It is hoped that, following the review, the SEP would be in a position to begin the process of looking for a suitable permanent appointment.
This proposal was considered by the Bradwell Church Council, the Cross and Stable Church Officers, and the Stantonbury Ecumenical Council last week, and the SEC agreed to continue to explore this way forward with the Bishop and the Archdeacon.
