Message from Neil: Hi, my name’s Neil and I grew up in Bristol. I studied Chemistry at university, where I found my faith in God, and also met my wife. After completing my doctorate, we moved in Germany for 18 months whilst I was a postdoctoral worker in the central laboratories of BASF in Ludwigshafen. After returning to England and spending six years as a Research Scientist for Albright & Wilson in the Black Country, I trained for ordination at Cranmer Hall in Durham. I was a curate at Christ Church, Quarry Bank back near Dudley, where my first son was born, before moving to Kirkby-in-Ashfield in the former mining area north of Nottingham, where I’ve been vicar for the past ten years, and where my second son was born. I enjoy birdwatching, baking and Bristol City FC and we are all really enjoying our time here.
Philippians 4:4 says this ‘Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.’
I wonder if the Philippians were a disheartened lot that they needed to be told to remember the Good News of Jesus. And told again and again. Certainly if we allow ourselves to be bombarded by bad news we will have be to be reminded, again and again. Rejoicing isn’t just jumping around or dancing, parties or celebrations, or even putting on a brave face when your heart is broken. Rejoicing is a growing act. It leads to a deep and inner conviction that the love of God in Jesus is real and for all.
